घासीराम महली नागपुरी भाषा के प्रसिद्ध कवि और साहित्यकार थे, जिनका जन्म 17 जनवरी 1859 को झारखंड के रांची जिले के करणट (करकट) गाँव, चान्हो प्रखंड में हुआ था। वे महली समुदाय से थे और बाद में 1937 में का निधन हुआ। घासीराम महली नागपुरी भाषा के पहले ऐसे कवि माने जाते हैं जिनकी पुस्तक 1911 में प्रकाशित हुई थी, जो उन्हें नागपुरी साहित्य के इतिहास में एक महत्वपूर्ण स्थान देता है।
वे प्रारंभ में पोस्टमास्टर और फिर शिक्षक (मास्टर) रहे, लेकिन उनकी असली पहचान एक कवि और गीतकार के रूप में है। उन्हें नागवंश के ठुकुर लाल ठाकुर के संरक्षण में काम करने का अवसर भी मिला था।
घासीराम महली ने नागपुरी भाषा में अनेक साहित्यिक कृतियाँ लिखीं, जिनमें प्रमुख हैं “नाग वंशावली झुमर”, “बारहमासा”, “विवाह परिच्छण”, “नागपुरी फाग सतक”, “दुर्गा सप्तशती”, “ललना रंजन”, “सीता स्वयंवर”, “चंडी पुराण”, “राम जन्म”, “सुदामा चरित्र”, “सुंदरकांड”, “उषा हरन”, और कई नागपुरी फाग गीत इत्यादि। उनकी रचनाएँ न सिर्फ साहित्यिक रूप से महत्वपूर्ण हैं बल्कि नागपुरी भाषा और संस्कृति को समृद्ध करने में भी अत्यंत योगदान देती हैं।
इस प्रकार, घासीराम महली को नागपुरी साहित्य का महाकवि कहा जाता है और उनकी कविताएँ आज भी क्षेत्रीय साहित्य और लोकजीवन का अभिन्न हिस्सा हैं।
Ghasi Ram Mahli was a renowned poet and literary figure of the Nagpuri language. He was born on 17 January 1859 in Karant (Karkat) village of Chanho block, Ranchi district, Jharkhand, and belonged to the Mahli community. He passed away in 1937. Ghasi Ram Mahli is regarded as the first poet of the Nagpuri language whose book was published, with his work appearing in 1911, which gave him a special place in the history of Nagpuri literature.
He initially worked as a postmaster and later as a teacher, but his true identity emerged as a poet and songwriter. He also received patronage from Thakur Lal Thakur of the Nagvansh dynasty. Ghasi Ram Mahli composed many important literary works in Nagpuri, including Nag Vanshavali Jhumar, Barahmasa, Vivah Parichhan, Nagpuri Phag Satak, Durga Saptashati, Lalna Ranjan, Sita Swayamvar, Chandi Puran, Ram Janm, Sudama Charitra, Sundarkand, and Usha Haran, along with several Nagpuri Phag songs.
Through his writings, he made a lasting contribution to the preservation and enrichment of Nagpuri language and culture, and for this reason, he is remembered as a great poet (Mahakavi) of Nagpuri literature.
