असम में यह सुरंग ब्रह्मपुत्र के उत्तरी तट पर स्थित गोपुर की दक्षिणी तट पर स्थित उंगली गढ़ से जुड़ेगी इसकी लागत 12000 करोड़ से बढ़कर लगभग 20000 करोड रुपए हो चुकी है इसे अगले 5 वर्ष में पूरा करने का लक्ष्य रखा गया है।
इस टनल की कुल लंबाई लगभग 15.6 किलोमीटर होगी इसमें रेल और सड़क मार्ग के लिए अलग-अलग ट्रैक और लेने होगी सुरंग को नदी के तल से लगभग 32 मीटर नीचे बनाया जा रहा है अत्यधिक दबाव और हिमालय क्षेत्र की मिट्टी की चुनौतियों से निपटने के लिए उन्नत टनल बोरिंग मशीन लगेगी यह भूकंपीय क्षेत्र सीस्मिक जोन 5 को ध्यान में रखते हुए अत्याधुनिक तकनीक से निर्माण किया जाएगा। अरुणाचल प्रदेश और चीन सीमा के निकट होने के कारण यह सुरंग भारतीय सेवा के लिए साल भर भारी मशीनरी टैंक और सैनिकों की आवाजाही को सुनिश्चित करेगी यह सुरंग नुमालीगढ़ रिफायनरी के पास है जिससे पेट्रोलियम उत्पादों की परिवहन में भी बहुत आसानी होगी।
India’s first underwater railway tunnel will be constructed in Assam.
This tunnel will connect Gohpur, located on the northern bank of the Brahmaputra River, with Ghilaghat (Uangli Garh) on the southern bank. The project cost has increased from ₹12,000 crore to approximately ₹20,000 crore, and it is targeted to be completed within the next five years.
The total length of the tunnel will be about 15.6 kilometers. It will have separate tracks and lanes for rail and road transport. The tunnel is being constructed around 32 meters below the riverbed. To address challenges such as high pressure and the soil conditions of the Himalayan region, advanced tunnel boring machines will be used. Keeping in mind that the area falls under Seismic Zone 5, the construction will be carried out using state-of-the-art technology.
Due to its proximity to Arunachal Pradesh and the China border, the tunnel will ensure year-round movement of heavy machinery, tanks, and troops for the Indian armed forces. The tunnel is also located near the Numaligarh Refinery, which will greatly facilitate the transportation of petroleum products.
