1. Delhi-NCR air gets new boost with urban road :

• In a push to curb rising dust pollution in Delhi-NCR, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) signed a tripartite agreement with the CSIR-Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) and the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA).
• The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aims to facilitate the implementation of a standardised framework for the redevelopment of urban roads.

1. RBI Discontinues Daily VRR Auctions Amid Rs 3 Lakh :

• The Reserve Bank of India has discontinued daily Variable Rate Repo (VRR) auctions, in view of a liquidity surplus in the banking system, currently estimated at around 2.75 to 3 lakh crore rupees.
• The daily VRR auctions were launched on January 16 2025 to ease short-term liquidity tightness caused by tax-related outflows and foreign exchange interventions.

1. FSIB recommends R Doraiswamy for LIC CEO & MD :

• The Financial Services Institutions Bureau recommended R Doraiswamy for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD) of Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), succeeding interim CEO Sat Pal Bhanoo.
• Doraiswamy, currently an MD at LIC since September 2023, brings over three decades of experience in operations, marketing, technology, and academics to the role.

1. FSDC Meeting: FM Sitharaman Emphasises :

• Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has urged regulators to expedite refunds of unclaimed deposits, shares, insurance, and pension funds through special district-level camps.
• The 29th meeting of the Financial Stability and Development Council (FSDC) held in Mumbai.
• The FSDC also discussed simplification and digitisation of the KYC procedures.

1. Thailand’s national bird spotted for first time in :

• The Siamese Fireback, Thailand’s national bird, has been spotted for the first time in the forests of Ranikhet, Uttarakhand.
• Scientific Name: Lophura diardi.
• IUCN Status: Least Concern, though facing moderate decline due to habitat loss and poaching.
• Geographic Distribution: Native to Southeast Asia, found in: Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam.

1. May was world’s second-hottest on record, EU :

• The world experienced its second-warmest May since records began, a month in which climate change fuelled a record-breaking heatwave in Greenland.
• Global surface temperatures last month averaged 1.4 degrees Celsius higher than in the 1850-1900 pre-industrial period, when humans began burning fossil fuels on an industrial scale
• The main cause of climate change is greenhouse gas emissions.

1. Cabinet Approves Rs 6,405 Cr Rail Projects

• Cabinet Approves Rs 6,405 Cr Rail Projects to Boost Connectivity Across Jharkhand, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh.
• These projects include Koderma – Barkakana Doubling and Ballari – Chikjajur Doubling rail line.
• The second project Ballary – Chikjajur doubling line of 185 kilometres will connect Mangalore port to Secunderabad.

• The NOHM exemplifies the Government of India’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge science in real-world settings to anticipate and mitigate public health risks.

1. RS may form panel to probe hate speech charges again :

• Rajya Sabha may form panel to probe hate speech charges against HC judge Shekhar Kumar Yadav.
• Articles 124 and 217 of the Constitution provide that a judge of the Supreme Court/High Court shall be removed by the President, on the grounds of ‘proved misbehaviour’ or ‘incapacity’ after a motion is passed in each House of Parliament by a majority of the total membership of that House.

1. Frederick Forsyth, ‘Day of the Jackal’ author, dies at 86 :

• British novelist Frederick Forsyth, who authored best-selling thrillers such as “The Day of the Jackal” and “The Dogs of War,” has died aged 86.
• His books, fantastical plots that almost rejoiced in the cynicism of an underworld of spies, criminals, hackers and killers, sold more than 75 million copies.

1. Greta Thunberg being deported after Gaza-bound :

• Israel detained the British-flagged aid ship Madleen, backed by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC), and deported Greta Thunberg for attempting to breach the Gaza blockade.
• Madleen is a humanitarian ship carrying relief aid to Gaza amidst the ongoing Israeli blockade.
• Organised By: Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC), a global civil society network advocating against the Israeli blockade.

1. शहरी सड़कों से दिल्ली-एनसीआर की हवा को नया बढ़ावा मिला:

• दिल्ली-एनसीआर में बढ़ते धूल प्रदूषण को रोकने के लिए, वायु गुणवत्ता प्रबंधन आयोग (सीएक्यूएम) ने सीएसआईआर-केंद्रीय सड़क अनुसंधान संस्थान (सीआरआरआई) और स्कूल ऑफ प्लानिंग एंड आर्किटेक्चर (एसपीए) के साथ एक त्रिपक्षीय समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किए।

1. आरबीआई ने 3 लाख रुपये के बीच दैनिक वीआरआर नीलामी बंद कर दी:

• भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक ने बैंकिंग प्रणाली में तरलता अधिशेष को देखते हुए दैनिक परिवर्तनीय दर रेपो (वीआरआर) नीलामी बंद कर दी है, जिसका वर्तमान में अनुमान लगभग 2.75 से 3 लाख करोड़ रुपये है।
• कर-संबंधी बहिर्वाह और विदेशी मुद्रा हस्तक्षेप के कारण अल्पकालिक तरलता की तंगी को कम करने के लिए 16 जनवरी 2025 को दैनिक वीआरआर नीलामी शुरू की गई।

1. FSIB ने LIC के CEO और MD के लिए आर दोराईस्वामी की सिफारिश की:

• वित्तीय सेवा संस्थान ब्यूरो ने भारतीय जीवन बीमा निगम (LIC) के मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारी (CEO) और प्रबंध निदेशक (MD) के पद के लिए आर दोराईस्वामी की सिफारिश की, जो अंतरिम CEO सत पाल भानु का स्थान लेंगे।
• दोराईस्वामी, जो वर्तमान में सितंबर 2023 से LIC में MD हैं, इस भूमिका में परिचालन, विपणन, प्रौद्योगिकी और शिक्षाविदों में तीन दशकों से अधिक का अनुभव लेकर आए हैं।

1. FSDC बैठक: FM सीतारमण ने जोर दिया:

• थाईलैंड का राष्ट्रीय पक्षी सियामी फायरबैक पहली बार उत्तराखंड के रानीखेत के जंगलों में देखा गया है।
• वैज्ञानिक नाम: लोफुरा डियार्डी।
• IUCN स्थिति: कम चिंताजनक, हालांकि आवास के नुकसान और अवैध शिकार के कारण मध्यम गिरावट का सामना करना पड़ रहा है।
• भौगोलिक वितरण: दक्षिण पूर्व एशिया का मूल निवासी, थाईलैंड, लाओस, कंबोडिया और वियतनाम में पाया जाता है।

1. मई रिकॉर्ड पर दुनिया का दूसरा सबसे गर्म महीना रहा, यूरोपीय संघ:

• रिकॉर्ड शुरू होने के बाद से दुनिया ने अपना दूसरा सबसे गर्म मई अनुभव किया, एक ऐसा महीना जिसमें जलवायु परिवर्तन ने ग्रीनलैंड में रिकॉर्ड तोड़ गर्मी को बढ़ावा दिया।

1. कैबिनेट ने 6,405 करोड़ रुपये की रेल परियोजनाओं को मंजूरी दी

• कैबिनेट ने झारखंड, कर्नाटक, आंध्र प्रदेश में कनेक्टिविटी बढ़ाने के लिए 6,405 करोड़ रुपये की रेल परियोजनाओं को मंजूरी दी।
• इन परियोजनाओं में कोडरमा-बरकाकाना दोहरीकरण और बल्लारी-चिकजाजुर दोहरीकरण रेल लाइन शामिल हैं।
• दूसरी परियोजना बल्लारी-चिकजाजुर दोहरीकरण लाइन 185 किलोमीटर लंबी होगी जो मैंगलोर बंदरगाह को सिकंदराबाद से जोड़ेगी।
