Indian Army launched a secured messaging application platform called ‘Secure Application for the Internet’ (SAI) on October 29, 2020. The application was launched In line with PM Modi’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat Mission’.
What is Secure Application for the Internet (SAI)
The mobile application for Android is similar to WhatsApp and Telegram. This will support end-to-end secure voice, text and video calling services. SAI has been developed by CERT-in empanelled auditor and Army Cyber Group. SAI will be used by pan Army and it will ensure secure communication among the Indian Army personnel.
Background behind this scheme
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat App Innovation Challenge’ on July 4, 2020. It facilitated the techies and start-up community to create world-class ‘Made in India’ Apps. The challenge ran in two tracks including promotion of existing apps and the development of new apps. The primary aim of the challenge was to give better visibility and clarity to existing Indian Apps in order to achieve their goals.
What was the need of new mobile application?
Indian Army was facing the issue of security breaches in using the commercial mobile applications many of which were Chinese Applications. Personal and national security informations were getting leaked through the applications like Truecaller, Facebook, Instagram. Inthat regard, the Indian Army had already imposed a ban on using the 89 applications by its personnel.
Application development
SAI application was developed by Colonel Shankar of the Indian Army. The application provides communication links and will also help in infrastructure management. It will monitor land encroachment and manage cantonment roads. Presently, the monitoring of Army land and infrastructure development and planning works are carried out manually which was time consuming and inefficient. The security application for internet was examined by the army cyber group and Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT).

एंड्रॉइड के लिए मोबाइल एप्लिकेशन व्हाट्सएप और टेलीग्राम के समान है। यह एंड-टू-एंड सुरक्षित वॉयस, टेक्स्ट और वीडियो कॉलिंग सेवाओं का समर्थन करेगा। SAI को CERT-in empaneled ऑडिटर और आर्मी साइबर ग्रुप द्वारा विकसित किया गया है। SAI का उपयोग पैन आर्मी द्वारा किया जाएगा और यह भारतीय सेना के कर्मियों के बीच सुरक्षित संचार सुनिश्चित करेगा।
इस योजना के पीछे पृष्ठभूमि
प्रधान मंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने 4 जुलाई, 2020 को b Aatmanirbhar Bharat App Innovation Challenge ’की शुरुआत की थी। इसने तकनीकी और स्टार्ट-अप समुदाय को विश्वस्तरीय in मेड इन इंडिया’ ऐप्स बनाने की सुविधा प्रदान की। मौजूदा एप्लिकेशन को बढ़ावा देने और नए एप्लिकेशन के विकास सहित दो ट्रैक में चुनौती चल रही है। चुनौती का प्राथमिक उद्देश्य मौजूदा भारतीय एप्स को उनके लक्ष्यों को प्राप्त करने के लिए बेहतर दृश्यता और स्पष्टता देना था।
नए मोबाइल एप्लिकेशन की क्या आवश्यकता थी?
भारतीय सेना वाणिज्यिक मोबाइल अनुप्रयोगों के उपयोग में सुरक्षा उल्लंघनों के मुद्दे का सामना कर रही थी, जिनमें से कई चीनी अनुप्रयोग थे। Truecaller, Facebook, Instagram जैसे अनुप्रयोगों के माध्यम से व्यक्तिगत और राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा सूचना लीक हो रही थी। इस संबंध में, भारतीय सेना ने पहले ही अपने कर्मियों द्वारा 89 अनुप्रयोगों का उपयोग करने पर प्रतिबंध लगा दिया था।
एप्लीकेशन का विकास
SAI एप्लिकेशन भारतीय सेना के कर्नल शंकर द्वारा विकसित किया गया था। आवेदन संचार लिंक प्रदान करता है और बुनियादी ढांचे के प्रबंधन में भी मदद करेगा। यह भूमि अतिक्रमण की निगरानी करेगा और छावनी सड़कों का प्रबंधन करेगा। वर्तमान में, सेना की भूमि और बुनियादी ढांचे के विकास और नियोजन कार्यों की निगरानी मैन्युअल रूप से की जाती है जो समय लेने वाली और अक्षम थी। इंटरनेट के लिए सुरक्षा एप्लिकेशन की जांच सेना साइबर ग्रुप और कंप्यूटर इमरजेंसी रिस्पांस टीम (CERT) द्वारा की गई थी।
